How much cheaper is udon thani compared to bangkok or phuket?

i have been to phuket and bangkok many times. i have never been to north thailand i was wondering if it was much cheaper up north?

I would call Udon Thani more Isaan than Northern Thai as the cultures are quite different - but I would also say abt 50% cheaper as a guide - - last time there I had a very nice hotel for 1000 baht - and that is probably top of the line w/very decent places available for 500

Bangkok, Phuket are some of the major tourist areas in Thailand so accomadation costs tend to be higher, more expensive resturants around.

Rooms are about half the price in Bangkok. Food is probably about the same.

Udon Thani = far less tourism = dirt cheap to live
