How do you get from Los Angeles California to Phuket Thailand?

Are there direct flights to Phuket or will I need to fly into a major city and then take a train/bus/bike/elepahnt???

There are flights from LAX to Phuket Thailand (The airport code for Phuket is HKT) Generally you will have to change planes at least once but Phuket does have its own Airport so there is no need to have other transportation.

Thai Airways Intl Ltd has flights where you only change planes in Bangkok. Cathay Pacific Airways has flights where you Change planes in Hong Kong. Asiana Airlines has flights where you Change planes in Seoul, South Korea. Flights with one stop are generally 20 to 26hrs long.

i believe you have to fly korean air. fly's to south korea then bangkok. then you fly in to phuket on a domestic flight. have a great time.

TAKE THE STATEN ISLAND FERRY!!!!

There won't be any flight direct to Phuket (unless Thai Airways have some sort of special deal on - but highly unlikely) There are many airlines that will fly you from LA to Bangkok . I suggest you spend a day or two resting and a bit of sight seeing in Bangkok as you will be very tired from the flight.

There are many ways to get to Phuket from Bangkok. There are regular buses, trains but these takes some organising and you need to go to the respective terminal in Bangkok and it may takes quite a few hours to travel - I think it is 6 hours on a bus.

Flying is the best option.

Elephant rides can be arranged but it will take you about 7 days and not recommended. (Bring lots of motion sickness tablets. 7 days swaying on the back of an elephant is NOT for the faint hearted.)

the most convenient and fastest is to fly Thai from LA to Bkk and connecting the domestic flight to Phuket. I used to fly direct flight with Thai from LA to Bkk, non-stop and it took around 14 hrs Thai also fly almost hourly to Phuket. You may also choose to fly low cost airline from Bkk to Phuket but I'd recommend to fly Thai as you may be tired from a long flight and believe Thai will take good care of you as your ultimate destination is Phuket not Bkk.

there are a number of options open to you on flying, do some research with the airlines online to find the best and cheapest.

You can't fly direct, you have to change planes in either Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, or Singapore.

The airport code for Phuket is HKT.

Your hotel will arrange a car or bus from the airport to the hotel, but you have to ask, Don't get a cab from the airport, you will end up in God-knows-where. After 24 plus hours on an airplane, you will appreciate a bus !
