A group of us are planning to have a holiday in phuket island at the end of the year (round 29 december). We are considering our options of getting there.
Right now, we are wondering how much would it cost for us to drive using our own vehicles from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket?
Thank you!!!
Just the cost of gasoline and road tolls ( malaysia only/no tolls from Sadao to Koh Phuket )
Due to security, there will be several police checkpoints after Sadao and on the way to Hadyai.
Suggest to spend some time in Krabi too.
Theres road signs in English the spellings might be different but easy to figures it out. If lost, wait for the next express bus with the word "Phuket" on the main road and tries to follow it.
And yes, along the way Thai highway patrols do have speed traps.
Phuket is linked by a bridge.
And theres a police checkpoint right after the bridge, so get your passport ready.
For your calculations, a liter of petrol is RM2.90
in Thailand.
Its a long drive, but i think it will be fun.
I went to Phuket from KL by bus 2 years ago
Never actually driven into phuket, i normally fly with air asia but i'd say around 6 hours? i've found you a kindred spirit though and attached his blog, sounds like they had some fun!!! enjoy and goodluck
KL to Bt Kayu Hitam is about 6 hrs drive. That will be about 1.5 tank of fuel for you.
From there to Hatyai is about an hour only.
Hatyai to Phuket is another 7-8 hours drive away. So in total you will need about 3 full tanks to get all the way to Phuket.
You got to be kidding...........that will be like 14hrs of non-stop driving, not including the boat to Phuket........just fly by Air Asia to Phuket, not sure KL but there is a direct flight from Penang to Phuket daily, takes only 45minutes to reach........
