I want to know which tour is the best one and what place is a really nice affordable place to stay near the beach? If you have any other ideas please let me know and links please.
We enjoyed the trip to the Similan Islands - although the accommodation was pretty basic (tents) but you can upgrade to a bamboo hut. Plenty of cheap accommodation around Patong beach, but you may want to do what we did - book a hotel on line for the first night and then find something more suitable
Sending info that hopefully will help...
Housewife if it were me I would look into renting a house/villa, I would get one near or on the beach depending on what you can afford. I checked the Holiday Inn rates and they would be around $171.00 a night and a house rental would be around the same amount depending on the season. Also here is the Phuket Gazette in English with cheaper rentals and a currency converter to see what the rentals would cost.

hope this helped....and it was fun going to Phuket via the computer what a beautiful place.
Take the all day snorkleing tour to Phi Phi Island, whether or not you want to actually snorkle. They pick you up at your hotel, and bring you back in the late afternoon. You visit several islands. Take the big boat, not the speed boat. It is cheaper, but much more comfortable and it is a relaxing day.
Tony's is a nice place to stay, good breakfast, nice pool, and close to the beach (if not on it, I can't remember). There's another place Pearl...something or the other, on the road going to the main beach. It is quiet, good breakfast. Sort of US motel quality. If that interests you and you can't find it online, leave a detail and I'll look it up and post. Both of the places I mentioned were about 1600 baht.
Spend the money, get the "good seats" and buffet and go to Fanta-Sea. It's worth it. (I think about 1500 baht each)
